Hare Krishna,

I am most grateful for this special opportunity to be with all of you in Sri Vrindavan. And tonight HH Giriraj swami maharaj will speak. But since he is not here yet I will say something which is to prepare your consciousness for his divine apperance.
Yesterday we briefly spoke on the subject of Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan and Sri Sri Radha Govinda Dev. We read in Srimad Bhagavatam, on the full moon night of sharad season Krishna wanted to reveal the crescendo of the highest love and devotion. It was on this night that he stood under the vamsi vat tree, which is just a few minutes from here and played upon his flute. The infinite love of Krishna’s heart poured through his beautiful smiling lips creating the most intoxicating spiritual music through his flute. Our acaryas explain that Krishna is all attractive. He posseses all opulances in full. Especially His beautiful face is the essence of all sweetness and his lips are the essence of the sweetness of His face. And when the love of His heart pours through the lips into the flute it creates a sound which entered into the each of the gopis ears and they could hear Krishna personally calling for each and every one of them. They left everything only to give happiness to Krishna. Our acaryas teach us it is not that the gopis wanted to enjoy Krishna but wanted to be enjoyed by Krishna. Because Krishna’s enjoyment is to seeing them enjoy, they enjoyed infinitely only for the purpose of giving Krishna infinte enjoyment. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and the greatest most renounced acaryas, sannaysis and babas in our line tell us that the deepest most complete form of renouncation is the ecstatic love of the gopis of Vrindavan. They ran into the forest leaving behind all of their wordly attachments, family, prestige, home, saftey for Krishna’s pleasure, and met Krishna under that holy tree. Approximately 500 yrs ago Paramananda Bhattacharya who was very dear friend of madhupandit, disciple of Gadhadhar pandit discovered on the banks of yamuna under the vamsi vata tree under the sand, the deity of Sri Gopinath. Who we explained yesterday was carved by Vajranabha but was lost to the vision of theworld for long time. Madhupandit goswami he worshipped Gopinath with his heart, his life and his soul. When the consort of Nityananda Prabhu Jahnava Devi came to Vrindavan, with many of her close associates after the first gaur poornima festival in Kheturi gram hosted by Narrotam das thakura, she visited all of the goswami temples. After Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityanada departed from this mortal world she was honored as the senior most acarya of our whole sampradaya. And even the great goswamis worshipped her as such. On her trip to Vrindavan she was put through so many challenges there were murderers and thieves that wanted to kill her thining that she must be having a lot of money other wise why so many people are following her. There were smartha brahmana worshippers of demigods who considered her to be a threat to the whole vedic society since she had so many brahmanas following her and surrendering to her, thousands of villages and towns popel surrenderng ther lives to her. And she was teaching devotion to Krishna, she was a female they decide she must die.

But through so many incredible arrangements…usually the demigods who worshipped would come to them with all of her weapons, riding on the lion she screamed at her so called devotees, “Jahnava Devi is my worshippable deity, I am but an expansion of an expansion of her. If you dont surrender to her with your whole heart and soul, I your worshppable deity will come to destroy you.” So all these different opposing parties they all fell at her feet at different times and graciously she forgive them and initiated them and induced them to folow the path of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda and give up all varieties of religion and raising their arms and dancing n ecstasy chanting the holy names

she was such a motherly soul although great renunciates like Jiva Goswami, Gopala Bhatta Goswami, Lokanath Goswami, Raghunath Das Goswami and Raghunath Bhatta Goswami were honoring her she would go to all of the temples and cook offerings for the deities. From Bengal she would get silks and jewels for all of the goswami’s deities. And she would love to cook for all the devotees and personally served them with her own hands. She roamed through out Vrindavan, she went to Sri Radhakund, where Radhunath Das Goswami fell at her feet. She pacified him in his intense feelings of speration from Lord Caitanya. Before she was to leave Vrindavan she went to Radha Gopinath temple for the darshan, it was evening time. And just as she was there, she was looking at Gopinath. She saw that Radharani was very tiny and Gopinath was so large in size she thought in her mind Radharani is so small. But then as that thought appeared she thought, “who am i to make a judgement, this is how they appeared”. So without saying anything to anyone she left. When she took rest that night she had a dream. In the dream the murti of Gopinath appeared to her playing his flute and He spoke. He said, “Jahnava Devi what you are saying is corect. Radharani is too small for me. I want you to go back to your place of Kardaha in Bengal and have a bew deity of Radharani that is suitable to my size made.” And then Srimati Radharani appeared to Jahnava Devi in the dream and she said, “what ever my beloved Lord said is what I want also.” she had a mission and soon after she left Vrindavan and walked all the way back to Kardaha, near panihat, where she lived with Nityanada Prabhu for so many years. And there an expert craftsman named Nayana was called to carve the deity and Jahnava Devi very very carefully guided every moment of his carving. And when the deity was carved and cast she had a beautiful festival to put Srimati Radharani on a boat and on that boat she sent some of the most close assocoates of Nityananda Prabhu. She sent many gold coins, necklaces, cloth, spices to Vrindavan, for not only Radha Gopinath but all the different deities of goswamis. And as the boat was departing on the river Ganga, Jahnava Devi with loving tears in her eyes she prayed to Gopinath here in Vrindavan, “My dear Lord, please arrange for Your beloved Srimati Radharani to haev a safe and happy journey into Your eternal abode.” She sent a message very quickly to Narrotam Das Thakura, Srinivas Acarya, Shyamananda Pandit, that the deity would be stopping in Khatwa, that was on the way. When the boat arrived in Khatwa all these great devotees with so many of their disciples were having harinam sankirtan as Radharani arrived on the boat. Srinivasa acarya got up and started offering gifts, Narrotam Das thakur worhipped Srimati Radharani. They were all offering their love and devotion and when the king Birambhir who previously was a dacoit and a ruler over criminals , and thieves became powerful. By the influence of Srinivas Acarya he became a humble and gentle dev who just wanted to be a servant of the servant of the servant of everyone. And when this king saw the loving exchanges of all the devotees coming together to honour Srimati Radharani he saw struck with wonder. He understood at that time that the real testimony of true devotion is how devotees lovingly serve eachother and honor eachother with Sri Radha and Krishna as the center of their lives. Vrindavan is a place where becasue everyone loves Krishna, every one loves each other. And when Krishna sees everyone loving each other that gives him unlimited happiness.

When Radharani came to Vrindavan there a glorious festival to install her beside Gopinath, Madhu Pandit was very happy to preside over the ceremony. And the little deity of Radharani was kept on the other side of Gopinath. And we learn from Vaishnava lteratures that some time after that Jahnava Devi when she put a close to her pastimes in this world by going on to the altar and entering into the form of the small deity of Radharani. Because Jahnava Devi in Krishna’s lila in Goloka is Radharani’s younger sister Ananga manjari. From that time that small deity is worshipped as Sri Ananga Manjari, Sri Jahnava Devi.
Gopinath is our pryojana murti. He is worshipped and bestows upon his devotees who worship him the ultimate perfection of the prema of the gopis. This is the single purpose of the gaudiya vaishnava sampradaya.
na dhanam…
we simply want to serve with love unconditionally and this love of the inhabitants of Vrindavan was the special gift of Lord Caitanya that Srila Prabhupada brought to the whole world. I beleive Giriraj Maharaj wants me to speak till 6:30 so I will continue for some more time.

When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was on the South India tour, he went to Sri Rangam, where he danced in ecstacy before the deity of Ranganath and as He raised His arms with tears of compassion for everyone around. How could any one resist joining the nama sankirtan. Soon there were dozens, hundreds and thousands in Srirangam, dancing and chanting like they had never done before. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was flooding that holy city with Krishna prema. Venkata Bhatta who was the brahmana and priest of the temple, fell in love with the Lord, fell at his feet and invited him to his home. When Venkata Bhatta welcomed the Lord home he washed hs feet with great devotion. He took that water and sprinkled it on his own head, his wife’s head, his two brothers tirumala bhat and prabodananda saraswati and then gave that water to his little 7 year old son Gopala Bhatta to drink. Seeing Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s beautiful form feeling His compassion and drinking the water that has washed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s lotus feet the littel boy feel to the ground in ecstatic love uncontrollably. From that moment his life’s only desire was only to serve Lord Caitanya. For the next 4 months little 7 year old Gopal was constantly engaged in simple menial services to Lord Gauranga.

One day a thought struck his heart. “This is my beloved Lord and in Navadwip He had His beautiful consort with him. He had wonderful long flowing hair, but now he has taken sannyasa, he renounced his home, His beloved mother , His family, He has taken off His elegant jewels and His nice clothes and draped the clothes of an ascetic sannyasi. It was breaking his heart seeing his lord performing such severe austerities as a swami. And again and again he would be crying silently within his heart, “Why am I so unfortunate that i could not take birth in Navadwip and see my Lord as the supreme enjoyer. Why have I taken birth to see him as a sannyasi? ” He could not practically sleep in the night. He was in such a state crying out “oh Gautanga” And towards the end of one night he fell asleep and he had a vision. There was Lord Caitanya, Lord Nityananda, Advaita and other devotees walkng along the banks of Ganges in Navadwip. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had long hair, wonderful flower garland around Him and He smiled at Gopal who was walking beside him. Then Nityananda and Advaita called little Gopal and told him, “we want to tell you a little secret”. And before they could speak anything in his ear he woke up. He ran to where Lord Caitanya actually was who was sititng in a room. He fell a Lord Caitanya’s feet crying and looke dat Him. Lord Caitanya smiled upon him and then before his own eyes wide awake Lord Caitanya mnifested His form as Shyama Sundar playing His flute in the forest of Vrindavan. He saw the peacock feather adorning His hair. His complexion like dark monsoon cloud, His clothers like lightning, beautiful garland with 5 differt types of forest flowers. Little Gopal then saw the Lord transform into Navadwip chandra, Lord Caitanya in His lila in Navadwip with long hair with his arms raised He was inducing the world to chant the holy names of Krishna.
\HKHK

Little Gopla was so over whelmed in ecstatic love he fell at Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet and started bathing them with his tears. When he looked up Lord Caitanya was sititng as a sannyasi. The Lord lifted Gopla and put him in his lap and embraced him with His tears. Lord Caitanya told him I am seniding you to Vrindavan. In due course of time, you must go there. There you will meet Rupa Goswami and Sanatan Goswami and you will be just like their third brother. There all your inner most desires will be fulfilled. But for now you must stay in Sri Rangam and carefully serve your mother and father who are my dear devotees.

During the 4 months the happines of Sri Rangam cant be explaind in mortal words. But as the caturmasa was apporoaching the end Venkata Bhatta, Prabhodananda Saraswati and Gopala Bhatta they were greving that soon our beloved Lord will be leaving us. what will be our life? we have become so deeply deeply attached to doing harinam sankirtan all day with Lord Caitanya, hearing hari katha with the Lord, going to see the darshna of Lord Ranganath with the Lord, bathing in the cauvery with the Lord. How will we survive? Alas that day came when Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu departed and the family the only solace they had practically they just discussed among themselves pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and pastimes of Radha and Krishan in Vrindavan that He had awakened in their heart. Gopal became the disciple of Prabhodananda Saraswati. how he learned the vedic literatures according to the conclusions of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu! His scholorship was known throughout the entier land of India. Some days later when his mother and father were about to depart from this world they blessed Gopal, “On Lord Caitanya’s direction go to Vrindavan serve the Lord with your heart and soul”. And chanting the names of Krishna, Venkata bhatta and his good wife passed from this world to the spiritual realm.

By foot Gopala Bhatta went to Vrindavan. At that time Lord Caitanya was in Tota gopinath mandir in Puri with Gadhadhar Pandit and all of His close associates. At that time the Lord was wondering, “what ever happedned to little gopal”, ofcourse the Lord knows everything. But at that same time, for the sake of intimate loving exchages with this devotees, these are actually his feelings. At the same time a messenger came from Rupa and Sanatan with a letter from them. It said, “today Gopala Bhatta has arrived in Vrindavan and we are like brothers together for your happiness.” Sri Caitanya mahaprabhu was so happy he sent these messgner back to Vrindavan with the wooden seat that Lord Caitanya would personlly sit on while doing his worship, and His own kaupin and outer cloth as gifts for Gopala Bhatta Goswami.

When Gopala Bhatta Goswami was living here in Vrindavan in the association of Rupa and Sanatan later Jiva Goswami, Raghunath Das Goswami, Bhugarbha Goswami, Lokanath Goswami, he was so dear to everyone’s heart. Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami was orderd by all vaishnavas to write Sri Caitanya Caritamrita. Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami felt that he had no qualification, the only qualification was the blessing of the vaishnavas. so he went to each and every vaishnava with great humility not as a formality, but he honoured and respected the vaishnavas so deeply he felt it is only possible with their blessings. When he came to Gopala Bhatta Goswami, he certainly bestowed his heartfelt blessing but requested him, “do not write about me in this literature.” What an incredible personality. This is going to be the most important literature and the post graduate study for Srimad bhagavatam for all time to come. Wouldnt you like to have a few chapters in that book for the world to read forever. But Gopala Bhatta Goswami simply wanted to see all the other devotees, so only very discreetly does Kaviraj Goswami mention his name.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeard to Gopala Bhatta Goswami and told him to go to Nepal to the river gandaki there with his water bot he took water to bathe. In that pot 12 shaligram shilas appeared, so he put the shaligram shilas back in the water and again they appeared. This happened 3 times. So he came to the conclusion that the Lord must want to come back to Vrindavan. So he brought them back and worshipped them with with great devotion. One time a very wealthy person came to vrindavan and to offer ornamnets and clothes and crowns to the different deities of the goswamis and offered to Gopala Bhatta Goswami. But there is only so much you can offer to shaligram shila. In his heart Krishna manifested to create a desire to be worshipped by Gopal in another form. we should understand that the desire of the great souls are mirrors of Krishna’s desire. When Gopala Bhatta Goswami was thinking I would like to offer more intinamte serveic to the 3 fold bending form of Krishna, it meant Krishna wanted to recieve that devotion from him. It was nrsingha caturdasi and on that day Gopala Bhatta Goswami prayed to Lord Krishna that “for your devotee prahlad you appeared in a transcendental form out of a stone pillar. If it is your desire please appear from this stone sila in your trascendental form so that i can serve you.” The next morning he woke up took his bath in the yamuna river, collected some water to worship and when he came to bathe the shaligrams one of the shaligrams, damodar sila, had maifested the form of Krishna. Standing in 3 fold bending form playing upon his flute he was beautiful. Gopala Bhatta Goswami in great ecstacy called for Rupa Goswmai, Sanatan Goswami, they all came there to have a beautiful festival. And when they saw the beautiful form of Radharaman they were struck with wonder. He was a self manifesting deity that grew right out of the Shaligram shila. with such fine features, little teeth and finger nails and each of his limbs were so beautuiful. we are describing how Radha Madan Mohan, Radha Govinda and Radha Gopinath perefectly represented the feet, the chest and the flute playing hands and the face of the Lord, sambandha abhideya and prayojana. All the goswamis unanimously agreed the feet of madanmohan, the flute playing of gopinath and the smiling face of govinda are all togeteher fully manifested in the form of Gopal Bhatta goswami’s murti. And just close by in Nidhi van where Krishna renders loving service for the pleasure of Radha, the goswamis named the deity Radharaman. Gopala Bhatta Goswami worshipped that deity with his heart and soul.

One day in his humility he was feeling, a certain pain in his heart that “who am i to worship the beautiful form of Radharaman, it is Lord Caitanya who showered all his blessings on me. He is the one that gave me enterance into Vrindavan, he is the one who opened the doors to vraja dham to me. He is the one who gave me the association of Rupa, Sanatan and Raghunath Das . He is my all and all.And my beloved father whom Lord Caitanya told me to serve till he died. And before he left his body, he gave me the instruction to serve Lord Caitanya as my life and soul. Who am I to worship Krishna.

Radharaman was looking down at Gopal with a smile on his face. Becaue the Lord knows our heart and as Gopala Bhatta Goswami looked at the beautiful smilling face of Radharaman, RadhaRaman manifested Himself as Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu with golden complexion. Krishna who had taken the form as Lord Caitanya with the complexion and sweet love of Srimati Radharani in His heart . Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu glanced and smiled in the ecstacy of love crying tears and chanting the holynames as Gopala Bhatta Goswami was beholding the beatuful darshan. Suddenly that beautiful form of Gauranga transformed into Radharaman, playing upon His flute. Radharaman would speak to Gopala Bhatta Goswami to fulfil all of his desres.

Gopala Bhatta Goswami before departing into Krishna’s eternal abode of goloka, established very high devotional standards of worship and to this day the descendents of his disciples preserved it. At one time, Srila Prabhupada told the devotees that we should study the worship of Radha Raman temple to understand that spirit of worship of the deity. And tonight we have with us one of Srila Prabhupada’s very, very close loving associates who received; personally he probably more individual instruction from Prabhupada than 90% of all Prabhupada’s disciples together. Ofcourse, every word of every page of every one of Prabhupada’s books and lectures and everything that he ever said to any of his disciples that we have heard they are all intimate personal instructions to us. And we should see it that way. When Srila Prabhupada was writing his books and commentaries, it was Radharani, it was Sri Rasabihariji, it was Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda, it was our whole parampara of great acaryas, intimate associates from the spiritual world including the 6 goswamis. They were speaking through Srila Prabhupada’s ecstatic loving heart to each and every one of us. We can think of it this way because if we understand it this way, it is the truth. As Krishna played his flute and each gopi heard Krishna calling her. As Krishan would call the name of the cows, each cow would hear only her name. As Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu during kirtan sometimes every devotee was thinking that he is only looking at me. Its Sri Chaitanya Mahapurabhu’s mercy manifesting through Srila Prabhupada. So when we are reading his books we should think like this. At this moment Srila Prabhupada is speaking personally to me. That shouldn’t make us proud, it should make us very humble and very grateful because we should know that he is doing the same thing for everyone else. And this should give us eagerness to want to hear from him, to want to somehow or other escape from whatever we are doing, whenever we can, to hear Srila Prabhupada speak to us. This is the way Prabhupada was empowered. And to get a deep intimate glimpse of how we can actually experience Prabhupada’s presence in his tapes, in his books, in the service they rendered to his devotes, and to his mission, Srila Prabhupada had beautiful pastimes with many of his very, very close associates. And when they share their memories they open the door to all of us. To feel this enthusiasm, yes, I too am being called like this. Let us all pray that we can have this realization and be grateful to such surrendered associate of our Gurudev like His Holiness Giriraj Swami Maharaj. Haribol!!! He has spent so many beautiful moments, days, weeks with Srila Prabhupada in Mumbai, Calcutta and Madras and Mayapur and here in Sri Vrindavan Dham. Let us welcome Giriraj Swami Maharaj. Haribol!!!

HH Giriraj Swami Maharaj
Hare Krishna. It is a great honour and privilege and pleasure to be with all of you today. And I look forward to being with you for many more days. Especially, in the presence of these beautiful deities in the most sacred dham of Sri Vrindavan. In the Caitanya Caritamrita, Srila Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami says that the pastimes of Lord Chaitanya are like a lake. And within that lake, are many beautiful lotus flowers which are the pastimes of Krishna, Radha and Krishna. As HH Radhanath Swami told us, as our acaryas told us, the Chaitanya Caritamrita is perhaps the most important of all the books of the followers of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. And exactly on this date, 37 years ago Srila Prabhupada completed his translation of Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita. And I thought to being by describing what happened on the morning of this date 37 years ago. Srila Prabhupada was in Juhu on the top floor of one of the tenement buildings. And every morning just before 6’O clock, we would walk up the stairs to Srila Prabhupada’s room to accompany him on his morning walk on Juhu beach. And we would do the same thing every morning, when Prabhupada was in Juhu. But when we went on Dvadashi, after the Rama Ekadashi, we were surprised to find that the doors were locked. On one side was Srila Prabhupada’s qaurters and on the other side were the quarters of his staff and both doors were locked. I wasn’t sure what to do, but I sort of gently knocked on both doors. And Srila Prabhupada’s secretary at the time, Harikesha Prabhu, opened the door; just a little bit. And he said, that that night, Srila Prabhupada had completed his translation of Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita that Srila Prabhupada had written the most beautiful glorification of his Guru Maharaja at the end, that Srila Prabhupada was in a very ecstatic mood and that Srila Prabhupada said we should celebrate by having a feast. So now I shall read to you, Srila Prabhupada’s beautiful glorification of his Guru Maharaja that he composed after completing his translation of Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita.
“Concluding worlds: Today, Sunday, November 10, 1974–corresponding to the 10th of Kärtika, Caitanya Era 488, the eleventh day of the dark fortnight, the Räma-ekädaçé-we have now finished the English translation of Çré Kåñëadäsa Kaviräja Gosvämé’s Çré Caitanya-caritämåta in accordance with the authorized order of His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté Öhäkura Gosvämé Mahäräja, my beloved eternal spiritual master, guide and friend. Although according to material vision His Divine Grace Çréla Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté Öhäkura Prabhupäda passed away from this material world on the last day of December, 1936, I still consider His Divine Grace to be always present with me by his väëé, his words. There are two ways of association-by väëé and by vapuù. Väëé means words, and vapuù means physical presence. Physical presence is sometimes appreciable and sometimes not, but väëé continues to exist eternally. Therefore we must take advantage of the väëé, not the physical presence. The Bhagavad-gétä, for example, is the väëé of Lord Kåñëa. Although Kåñëa was personally present five thousand years ago and is no longer physically present from the materialistic point of view, the Bhagavad-gétä continues.”
In the very first sentence, Srila Prabhupada explains that he took up the translation of Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita under the authorized order of His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté Öhäkura. And the theme of the concluding words is the service of the order of the spiritual master. Srila Prabhupada himself describes how he read in a commentary of the Bhagvad Gita, Srila Visvanatha Chakravarthi Thakur’s statement that the disciple should take up the order of the spiritual master as his life and soul. And Srila Prabhupada did that with the orders he received from his spiritual master. And he showed the example for all of us. How we can associate with the spiritual master eternally through the service of the instruction of the spiritual master. And this is a very important point. Because as Srila Prabhupada says physical presence is sometimes appreciable and sometimes not. Bu the vani exists eternally.
“In this connection we may call to memory the time when I was fortunate enough to meet His Divine Grace Çréla Prabhupäda, sometime in the year 1922. Çréla Prabhupäda had come to Calcutta from Çrédhäma Mäyäpur to start the missionary activities of the Gauòéya Maöha. He was sitting in a house at Ulta Danga when through the inducement of an intimate friend, the late Çrémän Narendranath Mullik, I had the opportunity to meet His Divine Grace for the first time. I do not remember the actual date of the meeting, but at that time I was one of the managers of Dr. Bose’s laboratory in Calcutta. I was a newly married young man, addicted to Gandhi’s movement and dressed in khadi. Fortunately, even at our first meeting His Divine Grace advised me to preach the cult of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu in English in the Western countries. Because at that time I was a complete nationalist, a follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s, I submitted to His Divine Grace that unless our country were freed from foreign subjugation, no one would hear the message of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu seriously. Of course, we had some argument on this subject, but at last I was defeated and convinced that Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu’s message is the only panacea for suffering humanity. I was also convinced that the message of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu was then in the hands of a very expert devotee and that surely the message of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu would spread all over the world. I could not, however, immediately take up his instructions to preach, but I took his words very seriously and was always thinking of how to execute his order, although I was quite unfit to do so.”
Srila Prabhupada explains that in his youth, he was the leader of his friends. And so when Narendranath Mallik met Srila Saraswati Thakur, he wanted Abhay to meet him and give his verdict. But Srila Prabhupada had not been very impressed with sadhus that he had seen. He said that many sadhus would visit his home, would visit his fathers‘s home but he was not very impressed with them. And when Narendranath Mallik mentioned that he wanted Abhay to meet a sadhu, he thought that he may be like the other sadhus. He did not really want to meet him. There was a building near where Abhay lived. And in the building a lot of men would go out in the morning. Lot of single men I guess were living there. They would go out in the morning, earn some money, come back in the evening, cook some food, and eat and go to sleep and then go out the next morning. So among them was a man who was in the morning he would put on his saffron dress as a sadhu, go out collect alms. Laxmi. Then come back, change out of his saffron clothes. And join the others for their evening meal and repeat the same process. So Srila Prabhupada was skeptical. And later Srila Prabhupada said that in Kali yuga, intelligent people will be skeptical. So Prabhupada was skeptical and he resisted going. But in the end, Narendranath Mallik prevailed. And abhay agreed to go with him. In 2007, 4 years ago, HHRNS and I met in Calcutta to visit different holy places connected with Srila Prabhupada’s early pastimes and so we went to the address where Prabhupada’s family lived. We went to Radha Govinda temple where Srila Prabhupada would gaze upon upon the deities, we went to the jackfruit tree, where Srila Prabhupada took birth. We went to the temple nearby, a beautiful Radha-Krishna temple, where we understand that Abhay’s mother would to and sure she prayed for Abhay’s safe delivery and welfare. And yes we went to the grammar school, where Abhay studied. We went to many places. And we also wanted to go to Ulta Danga, where Srila Prabhupada met Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. But we ran out of time. But after I accompanied Maharaja to the airport, I went on his behalf. And it’s a very special place, very historical place, very sacred place, which has now come into the hands of ISKCON, very fortunately so. Very, very imp place for many reasons. So Srila Prabhupada went and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur was sitting up and all the others were sitting down. But there was another place to sit up and Srila Prabhupada sat up also. And as mentioned here, Srila Saraswati Thakur instructed him to preach the message of Sri Chaitanya mahaprabhu in the English language to the western world. And Srila Prabhupada argued that even uncivilized nations like Japan (no offense!) had political independence and India does not yet have political independence. So first India should gain independence, then people will hear the message of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu seriously. But Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur replied that political independence and dependence are relative conditions of the material world. The material world is always filled with dualities. But the message of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is eternal. It is beyond the dualities of the material world. And people need to hear the message of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. That the message of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the only solution to all the world’s problems and it cannot wait. We must preach this message now. Immediately. Under any circumstance. And Srila Prabhupada later remarked that in his whole life, that until then he was never defeated in any argument. But he was defeated by his Guru Maharaja. And he was glad that he was defeated by him. So Srila Prabhupada mentions here that he received the instruction, he took it to heart, but the circumstances were such that the he could not immediately execute it. But he was always thinking of the instructions and how to execute it. So this is another lesson for us – that we may receive an instruction from the spiritual master and due to certain circumstances we may not be able to execute it immediately. But we should always keep it in our heart, and think, how to execute it, wait for the opportune moment when we will be able to take it up. And pray for that opportunity. I had an experience with Srila Prabhupada that gave me the same message you can say. We were with Srila Prabhupada in Gorakhpur as guest of Sri Hanuman Prasadji Poddar of the Gita Press. And infact we have been staying in what has been Sri Poddarji’s personal residence, estate, Sri Krishna Niketan. And Srila Prabhupada received a new issue of Back-to-Godhead magazine and the issues happened to have an article written by me. So Srila Prabhupada called for me and he said, “I’ve read your article. it is very nice. And you should take up writing as your main business.” And he said, “You can travel with me and I will personally instruct you how to write.” So those days, we didn’t have computers. In fact in those days, very few people had typewriters in India. We need something typed, we would usually go to the court house and find some people with the typewriters, infront of the court house, and pay them to type whatever we needed typed. So I went out and I bought some lined papers and some pens and pencils to begin my writing. A few days letter my senior god-brother Hamsaduta Prabhu told Srila Prabhupada that he wanted to begin his World Travelling Sankritan Party. And he wanted me to be on this party. And Srila Prabhupada agreed. So at first I was a little disappointed, because I was looking forward to travelling with Srila Prabhupada and being instructed by him in writing. But I had faith athat whatever Srila Prabhupada did was for the ultimate good of all concerned. So I thought if Srila Prabhupada wants me to go with Hamsaduta, or if he wants to fulfill Hamsaduta’s request that I go with him, then that must be the best. So we went to Agra and Aligarh. And then we got a telegram. Hamsaduta got a telegram from Srila Prabhupada saying “Organizing big pandal program Bombay come with party immediately.” So we packed up went to Bombay and in Bombay Shayamsundar Prabhu – Srila Prabhupada‘s very senior disciple – Shyamsundar Prabhu, he was the temple president. And he was in-charge of the pandal program. So he held a meeting with all the devotees to divide up the services and he wanted me to collect. He wanted me to raise funds for the pandal program. I said “Shyamsundar Prabhu, Srila Prabhupada instructed me to write.” He said that, “I should take up writing as my main business.” Shyamsundar Prabhu replied, “You can write anytime. This is the one opportunity we have. We can go to into any big man’s office in Bombay and ask for an advertisement for our souvenir. So you should do this now. Then after the pandal you can write. I thought about what Shyamsundar Prabhu said and it made sense to me. And I also thought upon Srila Prabhupada’s instruction that we should cooperate with our authorities. So I agreed. After some time, Srila Prabhupada came to Bombay. Of course if was a great occasion of jubilation and as would usually happen when Srila Prabhupada arrived, he would go into his room, sit in his room, and all the devotees would crowd into the room. Srila Prabhupada would look into the room, glance affectionately at all the devotees exchange some words with them and it was a very blissful family feeling. So Srila Prabhupada was glancing at the devotees speaking a few words to them and them he came to me and said, “So Giriraj how is your writing going?” And I was so flustered. I didn’t know what to say. I just couldn’t say anything. So he said “ok, we will speak later.” So shortly there after with just me an him in the room he asked.
And I explained what Shyamsunder Prabhu had said and how I probably said actually made sense and how Prabhupada wanted us to cooperate with the authorities. So I agreed,
But in the meeting with SRILA PRABHUPADA I was very apprehensive because I was not sure If I had done the right thing or not. And So after making my presentation I asked SRILA PRABHUPADA Did I do the right thing.
And
SRILA PRABHUPADA replied, “you can suspend the order of the Spiritual Master but you can never neglect it.”
And then he gave his own example. My Gurumaharaj also ordered me to write, but I was so busy travelling all over India and having programs, I also have not had much time to write. So you can suspend the order of the Spiritual master but never neglect it.
I was very elated, with SRILA PRABHUPADA answer because it was so practical, it did not compromise the principal but it accommodated the fact that circumstances may be such that one is not able to take up a particular instruction at a particular time.

So we will continue.
“””””””
I could not, however, immediately take up his instructions to preach, but I took his words very seriously and was always thinking of how to execute his order, although I was quite unfit to do so. In this way I passed my life as a householder until 1950, when I retired from family life as a vanaprastha. With no companion, I loitered here and there until 1958, when I took Sanyasa. Then I was completely ready to discharge the order of my Spiritual Master. Previously, in 1936, just before His Divine Grace passed away at Jagannath Puri, I wrote him a letter asking what I could do to serve him. In reply, he wrote me a letter, dated 13 December 1936, ordering me, in the same way, to preach in English the cult of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as I had heard it from him.

“”””””””

SRILA PRABHUPADA described that he would dream that his SPIRITUAL MASTER was calling him to come out of grihastha ashram and follow him and preach. And SRILA PRABHUPADA related that when he would wake up he would be in anxiety. That “Oh! Gurumaharaj is calling me, he wants me to leave home & to follow him and preach and he was thinking how can I do this? How can I do this & then he related that one of his God Brother Srila Srimad Bhaktipragyan Keshav Goswami maharaja told him that unless you take sanyasa you cannot properly fulfill the order of Gurumaharaj to preach
When Srila Keshav maharaja left the world in 1968, SRILA PRABHUPADA got the news in Seattle and he gave a beautiful talk of in appreciation of his god brother. And in his talk he explained how his god brother forced him to take sanyasa. And he paraphrased a verse, exactly a verse written by Srila Raghunathadas Goswami in appreciation of Srila Sanatana Goswami that- basically
“He was unwilling the nectar of Vairagya Vidya but he forced me to.”
So SRILA PRABHUPADA said that his God Brother, Srila Bhakti Pragyan Keshav Goswami Maharaj forced him to take sanyasa although he was unwilling. And then he said not that my God Brother forced but practically my Gurumaharaj forced me through my god brother.
So this is another instruction for us that we should recognize when our Spiritual Master is speaking to us through our god brothers, or not necessarily even our God Brothers, he can speak to us in many ways through many mouths and If we are humble and in the mood to get instruction from our SPIRITUAL MASTER, even in his physical absence, we may find that our GURU MAHARAJ is speaking to us, that he is speaking to us through those who are dear to him.
And SRILA PRABHUPADA was like that. He often took suggestions from friends, very seriously, as if his GURU MAHARAJ is sending this instruction to him. And we will come to that in next paragraph.
“”””
After he passed away, I started the fortnightly magazine Back to Godhead sometime in 1944 and tried to spread the cult of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu through this magazine. After I took Sanyasa, a well-wishing friend suggested that I write books instead of magazines. Magazines, he said, might be thrown away, but books remain perpetually. Then I attempted to write Srimad-Bhagavatam. Before that, when I was a householder, I had written on Srimad Bhagavad-Gita and had completed about eleven hundred pages, but somehow or other the manuscript was stolen. In any case, when I had published Srimad-Bhagavatam, First Canto, in three volumes in India, I thought of going to the U.S.A. By the mercy of His Divine Grace, I was able to come to New York on September 17, 1965. Since then, I have translated many books, including Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Teachings of Lord Chaitanya (a summary) and many others.

“””””””””””

So SRILA PRABHUPADA took the advice of his well-wishing friend to write books.
PRABHUPADA had another well-wishing friend in Bombay, Mr. Brij Ratan Mohta and Mr. Mohta suggested to SRILA PRABHUPADA that he include a section of the BHAGWAD GITA in each issue of BACK TO GODHEAD magazine. And SRILA PRABHUPADA took it as a good instruction. Although he modified it and instead of serializing the BHAGWAD GITA he decided to serialize the SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM. But that came from Mr. Mohta.

“”””””””””
In the meantime, I was induced to translate Sri Chaitanya -Charitamrita and publish it in an elaborate version. in his leisure time in later life, His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura would simply read Chaitanya -Charitamrita. It was his favorite book. He used to say that there would be a time when foreigners would learn the Bengali language to read Chaitanya -Charitamrita. The work on this translation began about eighteen months ago. Now, by the grace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, it is finished. In this connection I have to thank my American disciples, especially Sriman Pradyumna dasa Adhikari, Sriman Nitai dasa Adhikari, Sriman Jayadvaita dasa Brahmacari and many other boys and girls who are sincerely helping me in writing, editing and publishing all these literatures.

SRILA PRABHUPADA would take rest generally he would take rest at about 10’o clock and get up at about midnight and translate. While we young boys and girls were fast asleep and practically the whole world was asleep; he would be translating and he would continue to translate until his morning walk pretty much and if possible he would translate again later in the day and he did it for us. He did it for us and therefore to reciprocate his effort for us, his compassion for us, his love for us, we should read his books. He made the superhuman effort to translate the books for us and therefore it’s our duty to read them.
Now we come to the very crucial paragraph which will require some discussion.
“””””””””
I think that His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura is always seeing my activities and guiding me within my heart by his words. As it is said in Srimad-Bhagavatam, tene brahma hrda ya adi-kavaye. Spiritual inspiration comes from within the heart, wherein the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in His Paramatma feature, is always sitting with all His devotees and associates.

“””””””””””

Now we often hear that Krishna is in the heart.
“sarvasya cha aham hridayi sannidhasthya “
But this is a very, let us say, confidential explanation of what it means that Krishna is in the heart. Krishna is in the heart but he is not alone, He is sitting in the heart along with his confidential devotees and associates.
So here SRILA PRABHUPADA is saying that his GURU MAHARAJ is always seeing his activities and guiding him by his words within his heart.
Now we have discussed that SRILA PRABHUPADA kept the orders of his SPIRITUAL MASTER in his heart and therefore one could say that he is being guided by his SPIRITUAL MASTER words within his heart means by the instructions that he received from his SPIRITUAL MASTER during his masters manifest presence.
But here he is giving a hint that his SPIRITUAL MASTER is also present in the heart along with Krishna & that he could also speak from within the heart. And that is the fact, that is the fact.
But how to hear the SPIRITUAL MASTER within the heart?
It is not so easy.
In the 4th canto of SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM, there is a story of a king who went into the forest with his wife as a vanaprastha and eventually the king left his body and his wife became a widow and she was ready to enter into the funeral pyre to give up her body in the funeral pyre.
SRILA PRABHUPADA explains that figuratively the King is the SPIRITUAL MASTER and figuratively the wife is the disciple. And that just as the wife was ready to give up her life, in the absence of her husband, the disciple should be prepared to lay down his life for the mission of his SPIRITUAL MASTER or in other words, one should rather die, one should prefer to die than to fail to execute the order or the mission of the SPIRITUAL MASTER.
When the queen was ready to give up her life, to enter the funeral pyre, a Brahmin appeared and said that I am your old friend, and the Brahmin gave her some instructions.
And again SRILA PRABHUPADA explains that the Brahmin appeared in the absence of the King, in the absence of the SPIRITUAL MASTER to give instructions to the disciple. The Brahmin is actually, you can say, the representative of the super soul and SRILA PRABHUPADA raises the question quoting to Srila Vishwanath Chakravarty Thakurs commentary that “Why did not Krishna appear directly in his original form? Why did he appear as the Brahmin?”
And SRILA PRABHUPADA explains that unless one is very advanced in love for the supreme personality of Godhead, one cannot see the supreme personality of godhead in his original form.
But the paramatma, and again as we are understanding the paramatma includes his associate, the paramatma can manifest himself in the form of Brahmin or a Shiksha guru.
Anyway, we are fortunate to have the SPIRITUAL MASTER instructions and we have our SPIRITUAL MASTER personal presence, but it is not an issue, because we always do not have the physical presence of the SPIRITUAL MASTER. But we want to feel his presence, we want to be connected with him and we are connected with him by following his instructions. But sometimes we do not exactly how to follow his instructions.
It becomes a puzzle- how to follow his instructions? How to apply his instructions?
But if we are in that mood of just being ready to die, one preferring to die than not to execute the order of the SPIRITUAL MASTER, not to prosecute the mission of the SPIRITUAL MASTER, then the SPIRITUAL MASTER will make sure that we get the information we need, the guidance we need to serve him if that is our only desire and we do not have any ulterior motives he will do that for us, Krishna will do that for us.
“”””””””
It is to be admitted that whatever translation work I have done is through the inspiration of my spiritual master because personally I am most insignificant and incompetent to do this materially impossible work. I do not think myself a very learned scholar, but I have full faith in the service of my spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.

“””””””””
So just imagine, he translated 17 volumes in 18 months that means like one a month, almost one a month. From the material point of view it is impossible. It is impossible. But he did it having full faith in the orders of his SPIRITUAL MASTER and SRILA PRABHUPADA instructed us in the same spirit in parampara, because PRABHUPADA was writing the books but the disciples were lagging behind in publications and so he confronted his leaders in Los Angeles and at the Bhakti Vedanta Book Trust that I want the remaining volumes, I think may be 2 volumes had been printed, or may be 3. So he wanted the remaining 14 volumes to be published within 4 months. A humanly impossible task and when SRILA PRABHUPADA said that, Rameswara prabhu who was the head of the BBT said that it was impossible and SRILA PRABHUPADA replied “impossible is a word in a fool’s dictionary.” But Rameswara Prabhu was not convinced that it was possible because actually it was humanly impossible so he asked Srila Prabhupada: ”Well! What if we are not able to do it, can I change it”
And SRILA PRABHUPADA replied,: “Disqualified”.
In other words If you do not do it you are disqualified from your service & we will look for someone else. So by SRILA PRABHUPADA mercy and potency, the devotees accepted the instructions. Took the instruction to the heart and they did what was materially impossible. They practically stopped eating and sleeping. They would sleep may be 2 hrs. a night which was like what SRILA PRABHUPADA did. And The Artists for example , the artists they made like an assembly line, in other words, not that you had to do like that but they gave up their false ego. They gave up their false ego for the sake of serving SRILA PRABHUPADA.
So Often artist would have, may have some false Ego, “this is my work of art”. But they realized that the fastest way of bring out the paintings was that if one was expert in say conceptualizing it, he would or she would do conception, and one who is expert in drawing people would draw the forms of the people. And the ones who are Experts in backgrounds and trees and flowers, they would do the background and like that they just, because each volume had so many paintings.
So Every department, the Sanskrit Department, the editorial Department, the typing Department they were working in a very cooperative mood, without false ego and hardly eating or sleeping and they did it. They did it!
And in that process they became so attached to each other with SRILA PRABHUPADA in the center with CM in the center with Krishna in the center, they gave up everything all thoughts of personal comfort, self-interest and they just served for the pleasure of SRILA PRABHUPADA and they did what was materially impossible.
I was party to something similar, not on the same level, but something similar.
SRILA PRABHUPADA wanted the Juhu temple to be built in 6 months. Now that is materially impossible. So anyway, it’s like he would just not tolerate any delay or slowness, He just would not tolerate it! And I was trying to bring contractors, the builders, somehow trying to get some help to do the job done. So I brought a very big builder, GL Raheja.
SRILA PRABHUPADA showed him the drawings and said “can this be build in 6 months” and Mr Raheja said “Yes”
Well Anyway it’s a long story which is not so relevant. Ultimately it took about 2 yrs and 8 months. And when people look at that complex, even I, to do such a huge complex with very special architecture;
I mean the auditorium was state of the heart designed by a parsee man and who was like the leader of the field, the domes and the marble and the Kalash & it was just like…that was really fast; But when we were going through it was hardly inching our way along and SRILA PRABHUPADA was just not in the mood to tolerate any excuses or delays.
But we accepted it. We tried to follow his orders and we did not met the deadline but we did it somehow or the other. And that can happen, that can happen when you take the order of the Spiritual Master like the life and soul and give your life and soul to service the order of SPIRITUAL MASTER, wonderful things can happen.
“”””””””””
If there is any credit to my activities of translating, it is all due to His Divine Grace.

“””””””””””””
Now this is another point. Actually his holiness Radhanath Swami has sort also made the point. It is not exactly that SRILA PRABHUPADA wrote the books, but its like Krishna and as we were reading Krishna and his associates including the SPIRITUAL MASTER and the way the whole parampara.
Once SRILA PRABHUPADA was speaking to some newspaper reporter, Magazine reporter, about his books, and he mentioned that actually his books were written by Krishna.
This was I believe was in New York in America. And Rameswara prabhu, a very intelligent person, very intelligent person, he could see that the reporter was having difficulty understanding what that meant ‘that Krishna wrote the books’. So he tried to make it easier for the reporter to comprehend and he said that “well! what Prabhupada meant was that Krishna gives him the intelligence to write the books.”
And SRILA PRABHUPADA says “No. Krishna writes directly”
So we are definitely getting Krishna and the entire parampara through the books and SRILA PRABHUPADA would himself read his books That itself it proved that the books are transcendental or in the way that SRILA PRABHUPADA himself did not write the books, because what author, what mundane author reads his own books. They write it, finish it and then begin the next one.
But SRILA PRABHUPADA would read his own books and would relish them because they were transcendental.
SRILA PRABHUPADA servant Shudhakirti prabhu says that on a number of occasions he would walk into his rooms and SRILA PRABHUPADA would be reading one of his books, the BHAGWAD GITA as it is, the Krishna Book, and SRILA PRABHUPADA looked up at him and told him, he said similar things about both books, but let us say that he said Krishna book, he said that this literature is so wonderful that if you just read this one book, Krishna, you can become completely Krishna Conscious.
And then he said, you don’t even have to read the whole book If you just read one chapter you can be completely Krishna Conscious
And then he said you don’t even have to read a whole chapter, if you just read one page you can become completely Krishna Conscious.
And then he said you don’t even have to read one page, if you just read one line you can become completely Krishna Conscious.
And then he said, that you don’t even have to read one line, if you just read one word you can become completely Krishna Conscious.
Because these books are Krishna!
In these books you get Krishna, you get Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, you get the whole parampara. And the same could be said of SRILA PRABHUPADA spoken words.
There was one time in Amritsar; this was a very special day. Just to give you a sense of how enthusiastic SRILA PRABHUPADA was to preach. So we had been invited by a friend, named Harikrishnadas Agarwal. You can imagine I was completely new in India at that time and thought, “What a name, what a place, India.”
He arranged for the SRILA PRABHUPADA and the devotees to go the Vedanta Sammelan in Amritsar. There was a morning programme and an evening programme. But SRILA PRABHUPADA was receiving lots of invitations to go to temples, to go to homes, to go to societies and he just was accepting all the invitations and The devotees just could not keep up with him.
So Gurudas prabhu approached SRILA PRABHUPADA and said “SRILA PRABHUPADA, We cannot keep up this pace. I am sorry but the devotees are getting sick, they are getting dysentery, they are exhausted.”
So PRABHUPADA said “OK I will accept only 2 programs a day.
So it was going alright for a while but the invitations were accumulating and time was running out.
So one day SRILA PRABHUPADA accepted 7 invitations. And SRILA PRABHUPADA would go by the car, you know usually the host would arrange for a car, and we would go by rickshaw and it was very hard to keep up.
I remember once he did a programme at the Durga maa temple. I think. Anyway so He probably already been in there for half hour and we got there just as he was leaving. And then he got in his car and he sped in to the next programme, we had to get in the rickshaw, trying to catch up with him. But the very last programme; I think they were devotees, they were definitely devotees. SRILA PRABHUPADA spoke in Hindi & I didn’t know much Hindi. But somehow by his mercy I could understand what he was saying because he was quoting verses which I knew but it was just some mystery. So I understood a fair amount. We could see that He was relishing the association of those devotees and he was relishing Krishna, relishing the association of Krishna.
So, At the end of the programme he came back to the camp and he was in his room and I got back later But I saw the light was on in his room. And I was just so curious, I thought “Why! SRILA PRABHUPADA is still awake! It is so late. And he did so many programs”
So I sort of, I crawled up to the window and peaked through the window. And there was SRILA PRABHUPADA sitting behind his low table, on his asana, listening to the recording of the talk he had just given and Then I thought “OK! Like that was not Prabhupada, that was Krishna, I mean Prabhupada included. But That was Krishna and Prabhupada was relishing Krishna , he was relishing associating with Krishna through words that Krishna inspired him to speak to those devotees.
So these books are not ordinary. They are the Krishna. They are Krishna and the whole parampara and they have great potency.
There was a devotee, who had a son who is very pious very pure hearted a very special boy. That boy was very devoted to his guru, he was not initiated by him but he was very devoted to his Guru. He was very absorbed in the thoughts of his guru. But his father, somehow his father felt that his son should have like more of a relationship with SRILA PRABHUPADA as well. I mean not to minimize the value of the personal Spiritual Master at all. But he just thought that the son should have more of a relationship with SRILA PRABHUPADA also.
And so he like he convinced his son to start reading SRILA PRABHUPADA books and listening to Prabhupada’s tapes and the son did it and he began to feel his relationship to SRILA PRABHUPADA develop or awaken. He is a very pious boy, a pure hearted boy and he started to have dreams about SRILA PRABHUPADA. SRILA PRABHUPADA would come to him and give him instructions.
And any way it is just one example. Of course, No one can replace one’s personal SPIRITUAL MASTER. That is not possible. That is very much part of our system, parampara.
But it is just on the idea that by wani, by how substantial wani is and how real the relationship based on wani can be.
Of course there is a difference because means why the personal presence is so important; because otherwise you will think why do we even need a Spiritual Master. We can just read the Srila Prabhupada books. But there is a reason which I can summarize in a very short statement that SRILA PRABHUPADA made.
As you know there is verse in second chapter of the first of SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM
“Nashta prayesu Abhadreshu Nityam Bhagavat Sevaya.”
That by serving the book Bhagavat or the person Bhagavat one gets the same result.
So once a disciple asked SRILA PRABHUPADA-”Yes! One gets the same result! But still is there some difference, I mean is one better than the other.”
And SRILA PRABHUPADA replied, “The person Bhagavat is better because he can catch you by the ear.”
So we need that, we need that personal guidance; otherwise we can read the books and have imaginary idea. I mean of course if we are sincere and we are in proper mood that would not happen but because we are conditioned soul and we are prone to make mistakes we can have a have an artificial idea of what the books mean or what it means to follow the books. So we need that. We need someone to catch us by the ear and set us right.
“”””””””
If there is any credit to my activities of translating, it is all due to His Divine Grace. Certainly if His Divine Grace were physically present at this time, it would have been a great occasion for jubilation, but even though he is not physically present, I am confident that he is very pleased by this work of translation. He was very fond of seeing many books published to spread the Krsna consciousness movement. Therefore our society, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, has formed to execute the order of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.

“””””””””””””
So again Prabhupada comes back to the order of the SPIRITUAL MASTER and how SRILA BHAKTI SIDDHANT SARASWATI THAKUR wanted many books on Krishna Consciousness to be published and distributed & SRILA PRABHUPADA says that ISKCON , yes, his own service of writing and publishing books was in pursuance of his GURU MAHARAJ’s order; But the whole International society for Krishna Consciousness is meant to fulfill the order of SRILA BHAKTI SIDDHANT SARASWATI THAKUR and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu .And in particular here, SRILA PRABHUPADA is emphasizing the writing and publishing & distributing of the transcendental literature.
“””””””””””””
It is my wish that devotees of Lord Chaitanya all over the world enjoy this translation.
“”””””””””
Well how will we enjoy this translation?
By reading it! If we don’t read it we will not relish it.
So here SRILA PRABHUPADA said, not that you are guilty of this, certainly not, but SRILA PRABHUPADA said that it is not enough to distribute my books you should also read it, and he said that , said referring to the devotees that “Sankirtana will keep them happy and reading my books will keep them.”
”””””””””””
It is my wish that devotees of Lord Chaitanya all over the world enjoy this translation, and I am glad to express my gratitude to the learned men in the Western countries who are so pleased with my work that they are ordering in advance all my books that will be published in the future. On this occasion, therefore, I request my disciples who are determined to help me in this work to continue their cooperation fully, so that philosophers, scholars, religionists and people in general all over the world will benefit by reading our transcendental literatures such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Sri Chaitanya -Charitamrita.

“”””””””

The same order has passed on to us through parampara. SRILA PRABHUPADA gave the example of a too-too train, that, his GURU MAHARAJ was pushing him. that’s is how the train, so his GURU MAHARAJ was pushing him and similarly he was pushing us and in the future we will push our followers.
“”””””””””””
Thus end the Bhaktivedanta purports to Sri Chaitanya -Charitamrita, dated November 10, 1974, at the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, Hare Krsna Land, Juhu, Bombay.
“””””””””””

Hare Krishna !
SRILA PRABHUPADA ki jay.
Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita ki jay
Gaur Bhaktavrinda ki Jay
Hare Krishna!
